My church is participateing with thousands of other Christians in the Wesleyan tradition in a study and sermon series called Ashes to Fire . It is a focused study for the entire church from Ash Wednesday through Pentecost Sunday. As a part of that I am calling our people to fast something through all of, or for even a portion of, the season of Lent.

I can remember my first reaction to the idea of participating in the Christian tradition of Lent a decade ago. My exposure to the observance had been scant and I had a few questions like:
What is this really all about?
Isn't this a Catholic "thing"?
Do I have to eat fish on Fridays?
Why does all that fuzzy purplish blue stuff get it's own season in the Christian Calendar?
Thankfully one of my professors, Dr. Jim Edlin, wrote a quick study on Lent that answered many of those questions. I have chosen to share it here on our church website www.lifepointlebanon.com. I encourage you to look this over and take some time to pray and discuss with your family what you will give up for Lent. In my experience this time has focused my prayer life, drawn my family together, and has always left me feeling closer to the Lord. I will be blogging more about different types of fasts, and about our family and church experience through out this season as well. I challenge you to take this journey along with me as we approach Easter and Resurrection Sunday. Who knows what God might have in store for you during this time?
Grace and Peace,
Kelly
