Pray 10k - Day 2 Pray for Healing

Avah Mae Jennings resting after receiving a round of chemo.
One of the most painful aspects of being a pastor is walking with people through the pain of sickness, health concerns, and disease. The pressures that mount because of illness are numerous and go far beyond just the physical symptoms that people experience. There are lost wages from lost work, the resulting financial burden, emotional and relational strain that falls upon not only the sick but their families piles up and can exacerbate the symptoms. It’s been like this forever, and one thing remains the same, there is nothing good about sickness in any of it’s forms. And that is why God calls upon the church to pray for those who are sick.

In James chapter 5, Jesus’s little brother writes:
14 Is anyone sick? He should call for the elders of the church and they should pray over him and pour a little oil upon him, calling on the Lord to heal him. 15 And their prayer, if offered in faith, will heal him, for the Lord will make him well; and if his sickness was caused by some sin, the Lord will forgive him.
16 Admit your faults to one another and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The earnest prayer of a righteous man has great power and wonderful results.
-James 5:14-16 TLB

So today as we pray for those who are sick, injured, fighting infection, and struggling to find the health they need, give it all the faith that you can muster. Pray for:
  • Health Care Professionals
  • Those providing treatment for and struggling with mental health issues.
  • The facilities where people wait for healing.
  • The families providing care.
  • For them to have hope as God brings their healing.
  • That their own faith would increase through out the process.
Two families that really need our prayer right now are the family of Avah Jennings, and Matt and Laura Latall.

Avah is 4 years old and a week ago today, she was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia. She has just started chemo treatments at St. Jude’s in Memphis and is doing as well as a 4 year old with cancer could ever do. Please pray for her parents Jimmy and Ashley, and brother Tommy as they are with her through this ordeal. Thankfully this is a family of faith, pray that their would be strengthened as God brings healing to Avah and that they could be a light for the other families in St. Jude’s as well.

If, through your prayers, you are so moved to help them financially, please pray about contributing to help them cover their costs by following this link.

Yesterday while my perfectly healthy kids were playing soccer I received a call from Matt that Laura was being taken by ambulance to a hospital in Springfield because of preeclampsia. Laura is 28 weeks pregnant with their first child, and unless something powerful happens, the baby will come several weeks early. Please be in prayer for Laura and the baby, for all the extended time that little one can have before she is born, and for Matt as he provides strength and support for his family. Matt and Laura are pillars of the church and have Godly families, but they still need all the prayer and support they can get, let's give them that and then some.

God does move as we call to him in prayer. By praying prayers of great faith, God does great things for His glory. Stand in and pray for someone who needs healing today.
